RAZOR/PILEDRIVER Manager Launches 'Heavy Metal Music Association Of Canada'

February 26, 2006

Toronto Star is reporting that RAZOR/PILEDRIVER manager Raymond Wallace has teamed up with some other diehard metal fans to start up the Heavy Metal Music Association of Canada. It's little more than a web page right now, but Wallace hopes to help foster a resurgence in Canadian metal.

"We've only been around for a few months, so we're still in our infancy but we plan on being around forever," he told the Toronto Star. The goal is to bring the music back to its '80s prominence.

"We also want there to be heavy metal categories in music awards shows, and actually show them on air, not just handing them out beforehand. We also have to get more metal back on the retail shelves. The metal section in the HMV downtown used to be four times the size it is now."

"I'm sick and tired of people blaming poor metal sales on downloading and burning," he continued. "The truth is that a lot of people look down on metal, and there are no metalheads making the decisions (in the music industry). It's always been a steady seller, but the mainstream media just stopped paying attention."

The Heavy Metal Music Association itself will soon host monthly events at the Marquee (280 Coxwell) in Toronto. The first one is taking place April 29; see www.hmmac.net. But if you really want to see metal, Wallace suggests La Belle Province.

"I was with my bands in Montreal and it was nuts. Our show was sold out, but there four other metal shows going on in the city, and they did really well, too. Quebec is the haven for heavy metal music in Canada."
